Door Fly Screens
Door fly screens are a useful addition to any home, office, or food preparation area. They allow the fresh air in to circulate on warm days, while keeping annoying and hazardous flying insects such as mosquitoes, flies, wasps and midges outside. Door fly screens do not block out the light or reduce visibility outside, and allow easy opening and closing of doors.
Which Doors Can Have Fly Screens?
Door fly screens can be used for all types of doors, including standard doors, French doors, conservatory doors, patio doors and sliding doors. They can be made to match the door frame and surrounding decor to look elegant and unobtrusive, while still being effective against flying insects.
Door fly screens can be used pretty much anywhere; in the home, work place, caravans, tents, gazebos, boats, greenhouses, even children's play houses. They are often used for commercial purposes in restaurants and kitchen areas to comply with health and safety regulations.
Types of Door Fly Screens
There are different types of door fly screens:
- Flexible door fly screen - flexible mesh is attached with material such as Velcro self-adhesive tape. The fly screen is peeled back to open and close the door, and easily reattached. Flexible door fly screens are useful for awkward-shaped doors.
- Curtain door fly screen - strips of overlapping insect mesh hang down from the top of the doorway. These are weighted at the bottom to ensure the fly screen hangs in place. People and pets can easily walk through the mesh curtain.
- Door screen blinds - plastic strips hang down from the top of the door. Easy to walk through.
- Sliding door fly screen - insect mesh sits inside an aluminium frame which fits onto the door frame. The screen slides along a track when being opened and closed.
- Roller door fly screen - this is a retractable door fly screen which is pulled from side to side in order to open and close it. The insect mesh is contained in a spring-loaded cassette attached to the side of the door frame, which retracts back into the cassette when not in use. Roller door fly screens are also available for vertical use.
- Hinged door fly screen - insect mesh is enclosed in an aluminium frame attached to the door frame via hinges, for easy opening and closing.
- Chain door fly screen - a row of chains made from aluminium links is hung from a rail at the top of the door. Easy to walk through, chain door fly screens are also useful as room dividers, and are often used in the food industry.
